Staff and volunteers of MEMHREP Ghana, on 23rd November 2022 paid a visit to the psychiatric
unit of Ejisu Government Hospital in the Ashanti region of Ghana.
Speaking to staff of MEMHREP, the nurse in charge of the department Ms Esther Glago commended the
initiative of the NGO in educating, supporting and caring for the needs of people living with
mental illness in Ghana.
She therefore urged other NGOs to emulate the examples of MEMHREP in it’s efforts at getting
persons living with mental illness of the streets.
She also highlighted poverty, starvation and stigmatization as factors affecting the quality of
mental health delivery in the district.
The CEO of MEMHREP, Mr Adu-Gyamfi called on the NHIS to as a matter of urgency subsidize drugs
used in treating people living with mental illness in Ghana.
